Energy bars, Cheetos, juice pouches, supermarket bread -- Americans eat more processed foods than anyone else in the world. We also  spend more on  military research. These  two seemingly unrelated facts are inextricably linked. What is the effect of such a diet, eaten as it is by soldiers, and most consumers, day in, day out, year after year? We really don't know.

Anastacia Marx de Salcedo, author of Combat-ReadyKitchen: How the U.S. Military Shapes the Way You Eat examining The long relationship between the processed food industry and the military and their influence on the American food industry and diet.
